At the end of a great summer, Jerry Stackhouse's Banks Law Firm team finished up on top. Stack's squad completed a spirited run through the tournament portion of the Greater N.C. Pro-Am on Thursday night in Durham by winning the championship. After earning a spot in the final with an 80-52 drubbing of Sheraton Imperial, Banks finished off the tournament with a 91-84 win over DreamWorks to hoist the title. North Carolina's Reggie Bullock, who didn't play during the season, but joined Banks for the tournament portion scored 31 points against Sheraton, then dropped 28 more on DreamWorks in the finale to earn tournament MVP honors.
After dropping 16 points, including a buzzer-beating three in his first pool play game a week ago, Stack played limited minutes in the tournament portion of the league, choosing instead to sit back and let the young players do their thing.
Jerry believes he'll fill a similar role for the Nets this season, so he was content to play more of a coaching role at the end of the tournament and let Bullock, Nuggets draft pick Quincy Miller, Bo Ingram and USC's J.T. Terrell take the lead. The players, most of whom are still in college, appreciated the opportunity and the experience the tournament gave them against high-level competition night-in and night-out. Quinn Cook of Duke, who played for DreamWorks, gave Banks credit for their win and beamed about playing with and against such great players.
