Three Straight 02.23.10 - 01:27pm

by Joseph Merkel

Make that three straight games, three straight wins, and by no coincidence, three straight nights of key bench contributions from Jerry Stackhouse.

In victories against the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Bobcats, and New York Knicks, Jerry combined for 21 points and added 10 boards.

He was also 4-of-9 from the three-point line. Said Stack on his three-point shooting:

“If we can get that contagious throughout the team we can be dangerous. We got to be able to move the ball and make the easy plays, man. Gotta get out of the 'hero syndrome,' not against good teams, can’t have that, not against good teams. That’s not a great team we played tonight, but whenever you make the extra pass it seem like that ball finds a way to go in. Nothing wrong with three-point shooting as long as it’s a shot where a guy can catch the ball and got time to look at it. When you got contested running shots at the basket and (stuff) like that, that’s a hard way to consistently win. That’s a recipe for disaster in my mind.”

FIRING ON ALL PISTONS

Stack’s best game of the weekend came in the form of a 91-85 win over Rip Hamilton and the Pistons. No. 24 scored 12 points, and the Bucks were able to fend off Detroit’s fourth-quarter comeback and hold on for the “W.” Said Bucksbetball:

“Stack had his best game since the Bucks home game versus an overmatched Indiana team on February 6. In 19 minutes, Stackhouse was very effective, getting to the free-throw line four times and scoring 12 points. The Bucks were able to get him in the post once against an overmatched Will Bynum and Stack was able to show off a nice spin move that he hasn’t busted out very often since his arrival in the Mil.”

KEY STAT: +37

The win over the Pistons was largely due to the fact of superb play by Jerry and the rest of the Bucks’ bench. Said Brew Hoop:

“The Bucks began the game third in the league in bench scoring (37.8 ppg), and adding Salmons to Skiles’ bench options definitely didn’t hurt the Bucks’ second unit scoring. Salmons, Ilyasova and Jerry Stackhouse (12 pts in 19 minutes) helped turn around Milwaukee’s poor start and they kept it going in the second half as well, giving the Bucks a +37 bench scoring differential.”
